Why consider a native species for your garden? Replacing an exotic plant with a native one offers several benefits, including improved ecological health, reducing maintenance and enhanced biodiversity. Native plants are naturally adapted to the local climate, soil and wildlife, thriving with minimal intervention and providing food and shelter for local species.
Yes, you can have a formal garden with native plants. Because native plants aren't sterile, as many exotic species have been bred to be, some spread readily by dropping seeds or spread via underground runners. However, careful selection of which native plants you put in your garden will assist with controlling spread and allow for a more cultivated appearance.
