Welcome to the Friends of the Cataraqui Trail – Partners in Conservation, Recreation and Sustainability.
The Friends of the Cataraqui Trail is a local, community-based group of volunteers whose mandate is to conserve and enhance all 104-kilometres of the regional trail, by helping with maintenance, programming and overall awareness of the amenities of the popular property between Smith Falls and Strathcona.

The Friends of the Cataraqui Trail advocates for the sustainability, enjoyment and stewardship of the Cataraqui Trail, which runs through the heart of the Cataraqui watershed. The Friends group supports the public use of the Trail, promotes the Cataraqui Trail and assists Cataraqui Conservation as a volunteer work force for light maintenance and to monitor and report trail hazards and maintenance issues.
The financial support of trail users and other individual is an important source of funds for the ongoing improvements and maintenance of the trail. We encourage those who regularly use the trail to support it financially. Invest in a $25 membership and/or make a donation.
The Cataraqui Trail is a year-round, shared-use recreational trail. In spring, summer and fall it welcomes everyone from hikers to horseback riders to cyclists. In winter it is open to snowmobilers bearing a current Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail permit. Cross-country skiers and snowshoers are welcome to share the trail.
The Friends host a number of family friendly activities and fundraisers through the year:
- Trail maintenance days
- Fundraising runs (Rudolph Run, Bike or Hike)
- Photo contests
- Cycling events and demos
- Fundraising dinners
