Cataraqui Conservation offers quality outdoor and environmental education programs for preschool aged children (2.5 to 5 years old) and for home learners and children ages 6 to 11. Both programs take place at Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area in Kingston and allow children a chance to make friends and feel at home in the beautiful forest, field and wetland spaces of the Conservation Area. Our Sr. Conservation Educator has over 24 years experience teaching preschool to adult-aged learners in outdoor education settings. She enjoy working with children and passing on their love and extensive knowledge of nature and the outdoors. All staff have current first aid and CPR certification.

Early Learners - Ages 2 to 5

The Early Learners program is for preschool children ages 2 to 5 years old and their caregivers. Throughout the program participants will experience a connection to nature through hands-on, immersive opportunities. The Program fosters a strong connection to nature by using our head, heart and hands. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the seasonal changes and connect with the land at a pace that feels right to them.

Cataraqui Conservation has protocols in place for the health and safety of staff and participants. Programs take place outside. We ask all participants (child & parent/guardian) to do a pre-screening before coming to a program. Any participation (child & parent/guardian) is not feeling well is asked to stay at home and not come to program that day.

Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area (north of Hwy. 401 on Division St.) in Kingston

Time & Dates:

  • 10:00 to 11:15 am
  • Tuesday mornings
  • January 16, 23, February 13, 20, 27, March 5
  • Themes: Forest Bathing, Winter Wonders, Tracks, Scats, Owls and Maple

Fees:

$48 per child – $8 x 6 visits. Once the program has started there are no refunds. To qualify for a refund you must notify Cataraqui Conservation five business days (Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM) before the block start date.

Home Learners & Children ages 6 to 11

Our Nature Program for children ages 6 to 11 encourage participants to explore the wild spaces of Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area and lean about nature and conservation. Throughout the program participants will experience a connection to nature through hands-on, immersive opportunities. The Program fosters a strong connection to nature by using our head, heart and hands. Children will have the opportunity to experience seasonal changes and connect with the land at a pace that feels right to them.

Parents/guardians are asked to stay with their child during the program, it will not be a drop-off program.
