Friends members potting trees

As seen in the pictures, the Friends volunteers are hard at it as the nursery comes to life. At this time of year, the Friends de-winterize the nursery in preparation for a new season and for the annual Mothers Day tree sale plus new stock arrives which must be potted. Most of the new stock will not be ready for resale for at least one year and sometimes two depending on the species. Due to covid, tree planting programs and staff shortages, many trees are not available to us this year which means utilizing our newly expanded greenhouse to start more of our trees from seeds and clippings from with-in the Mac Johnson Wildlife Area. Thanks to some new members and the return of existing members, we have been able to make great headway in getting the nursery ready for the Spring season. However, mother nature has different ideas and keeps throwing curveballs at us, but we keep on adapting and success is just with-in reach. The Tree Sale starts May 7, 9-noon and continues for the next 2 Saturdays and Wednesdays. See you there!
