February 13, 2025 – Cataraqui Conservation’s Low Water Response Team has returned to a Level I Low Water Condition for the Cataraqui watershed extending from Napanee to Brockville and North to Newboro. Precipitation received in the month of January was below normal, with a regional average of 28% of normal. Long term improvements were seen with a three-month regional average of 61% of normal. Low water condition declarations for precipitation are based on three-month or 18-month averages. Streamflows are also an indicator of low water conditions and are based on a monthly average and how it compares to long term averages. Stream flows remain normal except for one stream in the City of Kingston.
A Level I minor low water condition has been confirmed by Cataraqui Conservation and the Low Water Response Team as part of the Ontario Low Water Response Program.
A Level I low water condition is the first of three levels and reflects a potential supply problem if precipitation and streamflow trends persist.
