cover of cataraui source protection plan

As of June 1st, the amendment to the Cataraqui Source Protection Plan is in effect. The Cataraqui Source Protection Plan can be found on our website on the Source Protection page.

The Cataraqui Source Protection Plan is a policy document aimed at keeping sources of drinking water clean and plentiful. The original plan has been in effect since April 1, 2015. Under Section 36 of the Clean Water Act, 2006, the Cataraqui Source Protection Plan underwent an amendment.

Through this amendment policies have been added or revised to improve policy effectiveness and to account for changes to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Technical Rules. These rules determine scientific methods, the circumstances, and locations at which a drinking water threat can be deemed significant, and thus which activities may be prohibited, restricted or require a Risk Management Plan.

On April 30th, 2026, the Minster of the Environment, Conservation and Parks approved the Cataraqui Source Protection Plan amendment with an effective date of June 1st, 2026.

If you have any questions about the Cataraqui Source Protection Plan, please contact our Source Protection Coordinator at kleblanc@crca.ca.

This amendment would not have been made possible without the collective effort of so many dedicated individuals. Thank you to all contributors including but not limited to the Cataraqui Source Protection Committee and Board, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, partner Municipalities and Risk Management Officials for continuing to champion the protection of our shared water resources.
